Wallbeds Are Wonderful

As homes become more and more expensive we are all looking for the best ways to maximize every square foot that we have. Think for a minute just how much time we spend in bed, for most of us it is around a third of our day.

This means that for 2 thirds of our day the bed just sits there unused and taking up space. This is exactly why so many people use Murphy beds. They fold back into a closet and can just be pulled down when it is bedtime.

Ok now it is time for some tough talk, Murphy beds are not things of beauty. No matter how nice the closet doors are it is still not adding anything to the bedroom is it?

I have always thought that the need to already have a closet in place is what stops people from using fold down beds more.

This si exactly why wall beds are so popular. As you can see from the images on the right you can get a wallbed in just about any style, color and size.

Instead of thinking that you have a 3 bedroom house, think about them as rooms where you happen to sleep. My teenager was always moaning that he never had enough room to put everything out when he was doing homework or when he wanted to get his electric car set out.

Once we got a wall bed installed for him he just laid the track out and as long as he was careful he could pull the bed down and never have to move his track. It also increased the amount of storage room he had.

We were lucky when we were looking at wallbeds in St George as we have a local company that specialize in it but if there is no one locally that can help you then you can buy do it yourself kits. The other option would be to purcahse a murphy bed kit and ask a cabinet maker to build you a beautiful storage area for it.

Don't think of it as an item that needs to be hidden away, think of your wall bed as an opportunity to imporve your home and make the most of your space. Once you get used to the idea of having a non traditional set up you will really be amazed how much you like it.

If you have ever compared a kitchen that you buy ready assembled from the local big box DIY store to one that is hand made you will appreciate the difference in workmanship.

A wall bed that is made by an experienced, skilled furniture maker will be a work of art and should last years. They can seem expensive at first (I know ours was) but if you can stretch your budget to buy the best you can you will be pleased you did.

Think about how much you pay for a good furniture set for any bedroom, when you get a wallbed you are not only getting a nice piece of furniture but you are opening up the space in the room so you can do anything with it.
